The Walt Disney Company, Seattle USA – Senior Engineering Manager, 09/11 to Present

Managed software development for Identity Management and eCommerce web services shared by 20 businesses across the Disney media conglomerate, servicing 10M unique customers per month (30M/yr).  Managed a team of 14 developers and 1 technical writer executing a $2M/yr project portfolio against 8 major services.  Core technology stack: Tomcat, Java, SQL Server, Cassandra.

Barclays Bank, London UK – Digital Banking Technology Partner (Technical Program Manager), 2008 to present

 Directed technical strategy, project delivery and service support for internet banking, mobile and corporate website channels servicing 3.5M unique customers per month (6M/yr).  Managed matrixed teams of up to 150 developers, infrastructure engineers, testers, architects and project managers in London, Knutsford, Pune, Manila and Shanghai, executing a ₤22.5M/yr project portfolio.  Owned client relationship and provided a single point of escalation for marketing, change and run business team of 65 driving £75M revenue in 2009.  Core technology stack: Java, JSP, Websphere, Oracle.

  • Successful rebuild of an 11 year old internet banking site, providing customers with a web 2.0 interface, and developers with an upgraded development platform based on java 1.6 and struts 2.  The new, industry standard codebase enabled the addition of offshore development teams, driving a £700k/yr savings with this 14-month, 46 staff, 11M project.
  • Successful rollout of a new corporate website content management system, enabling content editors, marketing, legal and compliance staff to manage web content without the involvement of developers.  This 22-month, 53 staff, ₤8M project enabled ₤1.4M/yr savings by removing the need for software developers from the content management process.
  • Enabled user volume to grow from 10,000 to 20,000 concurrent and earned the bank ISO 27001 compliant status through successful delivery of a 10-month, 150 staff, ₤8.4M hardware and security upgrade project.
  • Delivered 36 small change projects over 8 releases in 2009 via a 53 staff, ₤4.5M/yr small change program covering a range of compliance, revenue driver, cost reduction, anti fraud and user experience projects.
  • Enabled annual revenue of ₤3.6M by delivering a 10-month, 58 staff, ₤1.2M mobile banking program to provide mobile browser compatible internet banking, and SMS alerting.
  • Developed release and change management processes, implemented service reviews, and planned stability upgrades.  As a result, in 2009 the site achieved site uptime of 99.65%, providing 216M online banking sessions for 6M customers.

Washington Mutual Bank, Seattle USAVice President, Software Development, 2002 to 2006

 Directed software development, designed systems, and selected products for internet banking channel serving 2.5M active customers.  Managed dedicated team of 40 developers in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Bangalore and Tempe on projects with software development budgets up to $8M.  Core technology stack: C#, .Net, ASPX, IIS, SQL Server.

  • Saved $20M/yr in processing costs and increased new account applications from 100 to 2700 per day via a 6-month, 75 developer, $8M, systems integration project to allow online opening of checking accounts.
  • Saved $1M/yr in printing and mailing costs through successful delivery of a 6-month, 20 developer, $2M systems integration effort to present online, searchable bank statements.
  • Delivered further e-commerce projects including: corporate website content management system, online check images, online loan accounts, personalized advertising, email marketing, automated error reporting.
